I've got run my own stone and marble workshop for over twenty 5 years and it became a regular incidence to have guests wanting to buy a chunk of stone or marble to try out stone carving. I have a soft spot for all wannabee artists therefore I might never charge for the stone, asking instead that they create back their piece of work thus that I could see how they got on. Tools: Hardened steel chisels with wood handles like wood chisels used with a Wooden mallet. Steel chisels with steel bulb end, to be used with lead mallet or dummy . Can be sawn with a hand saw simply sort of a timber saw.
Blessings: Terribly soft to work. all varieties of chisel can work. Can be cut to size with a hand saw, glorious for practising hammer and chisel technique. Disadvantages: : Risk of exposing exhausting shell within the course of labor this might spoil the look of the finished job. Too weak to simply build skinny panel carvings for example house signs or ornamental plaques.
Conclusion: : Finer grain than Cotswold etc. Better definition of carving. Good selection for 1st project.
Tools: Tungsten chisels solely, tungsten carvers chisels used with small steel club hammer.
Benefits: : Top quality stone, fine grained terribly smart definition of detail. Robust enough to create skinny panel carvings, for example house signs or number plaques. Readily offered from garden centres.
Disadvantages: : Very exhausting to work. steel tools will blunt terribly quickly, Dust is hazardous so wear a mask!
Conclusion: : Not a sensible choice for novice carvers.EverardCheersstone carving toolsmodel boat kitsThanks!
